Work From Home Phone Options
As we continue to adapt to our Work From Home situation, we thought members of the Fuller workforce would benefit from an overview of the options available to staff and faculty for making good ol’ fashioned phone calls from your off-campus workstation.
Cell Phone
Obviously, this is the easiest solution for making a quick phone call. But, we urge caution, as this can expose your personal cell phone number in a way that may be undesirable or even inappropriate in some circumstances. Not to mention, if you’re not receiving a reimbursement for the use of your personal cell phone for Fuller work, this option may be problematic all the way around. But, for the occasional quick call to a trusted colleague, this is still a viable option.
Zoom Phone
For the truly “chatty” among you, the best option for Fuller-related phone calls is a Zoom Phone license. This is the ideal solution if you regularly need to make and receive calls as part of your job functions. With a Phone license, you are provided with a dedicated phone number you can distribute to constituents which can be dialed like any other phone number. With the Zoom software on your computer (the one you already use for video conferencing) you can make and receive calls using the mic and speakers attached (or built-in) to your computer. Zoom Phone licenses even allow for voicemail management and call routing among team members (with some configuration assistance from ITS). On top of that, your existing Fuller phone line can be temporarily forwarded to your Zoom Phone number while you work from home. For more permanent situations (i.e. you’ve moved to Montana), your Fuller phone number can be ported over to the Zoom Phone line. If you think this solution is right for you, simply have your supervisor complete this form to be considered for your very own Zoom Phone line.
The landscape we’ve all been forced to navigate over this last year has been challenging, to say the least. But, rest assured, you don’t have to face these challenges alone. We continue to explore new resources to make working from home easier and more productive -- the above options for making phone calls are only a small part of that. If you have any questions, concerns, or needs relating to your work from home situation, please don’t hesitate to reach out to ITS or HR. We’ll be happy to do whatever we can to lighten your burden.
