Getting Started for Students & Alumni
These instructions will help you sign up for a free basic Zoom account using your fuller.edu email address.
PLEASE NOTE: As of July 2022, Zoom reinstated their 40-minute time limit on meetings with three or more participants. For a free alternative for group meetings, you may use Google Meet (meet.google.com) with your Fuller email account - click here for more details.
If you are a student attending an Online Live class, it is helpful to sign in with your Fuller Zoom account for easier attendance and breakout room assignment.
If you already have a Zoom account with your fuller.edu email address some other way (telehealth, staff, etc.) do not sign up again.
Step 1
Go to zoom.us/signup and verify your date of birth (Zoom requires that you are 16 or older)
Next, choose which method you would like to use to sign in. Method A is fastest and easiest, while Method B is better if you already have a Zoom account through a personal Gmail account or will need to switch Zoom accounts often.
Method A (easiest) - Sign in with Google
Because you will be signing in using Google, verify that you are signed in to your Fuller email account by opening a new tab in your browser, go to mail.fuller.edu, and sign in with your Fuller ID if you need to. Without closing your browser, then go back to the Zoom sign up page and click on Google.
Select or enter your Fuller email address, then enter your Fuller ID if needed. Click on Create Account and you’re all set!
Method B - Email and Password
If signing in with Google does not work or you will have multiple Zoom accounts that will require switching
Under Your work email address, enter your Fuller email address, click Sign Up, and then check for an email from Zoom titled Please activate your Zoom account. Click the Activate Account button and follow the instructions, selecting No if they ask if you are signing up on behalf of a school - Fuller is already signed up!
Make sure your first and last name are correct, choose a password (this can be different than your FullerID password) and click Continue. Skip inviting colleagues, click Go to My Account, and you’re all set!
Step 2
Go to zoom.us/download to download the latest client
Test your connection and settings at zoom.us/test
Schedule your meetings at zoom.us/meeting or within the Zoom app. You may get a warning that there is a 40-minute limit, but Zoom has temporarily lifted the limit for all .edu accounts.
HERE is a quick guide on joining Zoom meetings for the first time.
Zoom provides excellent instructions and resources HERE and HERE.
Next Steps
Once you have signed in either through Google or through your email, you will use that same method to sign in to Zoom whenever needed.
If you have a different personal Zoom account, then you will need to switch accounts from the Zoom app following the instructions here. If you initially signed up with Google, you can make it easier to switch accounts through linking your email address with a password by following the instructions here.
